Why We're Doing This

I have been part of the pool community for over a dozen years now. As a result I know some of the most resilient, generous, and stout-hearted people I have met.

This current issue with the Spokane Fires on the first day of August in 2026 is already making a notable impact on a large number of people involved with our local pool community.

As this is something that realistically can only be directly fought by the professional firefighters currently doing the work, I wanted to shift focus to something that is slightly less direct than the problem at hand, but the resulting problems as a result.

I have spoken with a number of places that I regularly play pool. I already have a number of them on board to be drop off points for basic sundries.

After speaking with a member of the Spokane County Emergency Management team, they indicated that they were going to be consolidating supplies until an official drop off location is announced. I am attempting to ensure we are able to do our best to supply those that have been displaced with the appropriate basic necessities.

Returning Home — Cleanup & Safety Information

If you are returning to your property to assess damage or begin cleanup, please take the following precautions seriously. Fire debris introduces hazardous chemicals into the environment that are not always visible or obvious.

Wear Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • N95 mask or better
  • Eye protection (safety glasses or goggles)
  • Long sleeve shirt and long pants
  • Heavy, well-soled shoes or boots
  • Heavy work gloves

Remember that many items burned in the fire introduce hazardous chemicals into the surrounding area — soil, ash, and debris can all carry toxic residue. Do not handle ash or debris with bare hands, and avoid tracking material into your vehicle or home.

If you smell gas, leave the area immediately and call 911.

"I have made personal contact with all of these venues and I will be more than happy to ensure that we get any items dropped off to support the effort around those who have been impacted by the fires."
